It lives! A working 3D Printer

After swapping out the RAMPS board, replacing all the motor controllers, getting a new Arduino Mega, reinstalling the software, trouble shooting a few connections and realising that the end stops are not going to work if the shield is not pushed down onto the Arduino properly I have a fully functioning Nfire one 3D printer!

Some belt slippage and impatience in levelling the bed means that my first print was a mess, but the work now is about refining the techniques of 3D printing to get better prints, rather than trying to get the thing itself working. You can already see that I have made some headway in sorting some of the mechanical issues that I have been seeing as the quality is slowly getting better.

Three small blue robot shapes progressing from almost unformed to much more clearly defined.

The first thing I want to print will be the makerbot test print that I have been trying to complete for some time. The small attempts I have put through so far have proved to be interesting to watch and give me chance to eyeball issues without committing to a long print. The next thing in the list of things to make will be all the parts of the Hull Pixel Bot platform designed by Rob Miles, starting with the sockets for bearings and working from there.
