Push the button

Back to back projects have kept me too busy to blog, so I now I can fill you all in on some of the more interesting things I have been up to.

As part of Hackmanchester I know we needed a large button, but were not allowed to do any soldering at the venue, so I did a small amount of prep on the parts.

The large yellow button pictured left lights up and plays a sound when pressed, but I wanted to substitute the sound for an output that I could work with for the project. The sound was pretty annoying, so that had to go.

Opening it up I found that the PCB had two contacts that were hooked up to the sounder, so it was a straight forward job to de-solder the two contacts and substitute in some leads of my own. A couple of extra holes in the base let me pass the wire through and some hot glue where the wires went through the casing meant that there would be no pressure on the soldered contacts.

The case went back together including the new wires with no problem. When pressed the button still lit and the additional wires output enough voltage to light an LED.

More updates on what happens to this next soon.
