I have signed up to the 2016 Hackmanchester hackathon, the largest single event hackathon I have entered to date with 250 tickets up for grabs. At the time of writing the challenges are still going up, but I already have my ticket and some transport booked. I even have most of a team and hope to go with a number of people from work with an eye towards the company award.
I try to encourage colleagues to join in hackathons, most of them are not programmers, or from sectors with a traditional interest, which I think makes them very valuable in terms of bringing new ideas to the table. To try and spread the message I have put up some posters with NFC tags that link through to more detail on a page of my own site. My own Hackmanchester page is built with bootstrap and using the Google YouTube and Maps JavaScript APIs to add a bit of flair.
Sadly as with my other NFC experiments the tags have not been used much, which is surprising since Apple Pay and Android Pay have massively raised awareness of this functionality, meaning more people have this turned on and ready to use on their phones. The lack of interaction could just be a lack of interest, but that is hard to gauge.
