I have been working on a kit for an LED display as I talked about in a lot more soldering posted a couple of months ago. Time flies, but I have picked up my soldering iron again and made significant progress on the board. Below you can see that I have finished all adding all of the components to the board which got quite tricky in places, with parts very close together and solder points next to each other.
To break up the monotony of soldering LEDs I added all of the other components as I went, with the exception of the chip for the board, which I added right at the end to be sure that I did not fry it when I was still soldering.
I won't show the back of this board as I am not that happy with it, but things stayed fairly tidy and I was able to be reasonably consistent with the LEDs after a few tries. The micro buttons were simple, but you might notice the power jack, which I accidentally soldered to the wrong side of the board. I will be fixing this later and while I have enjoyed this project it has been much more challenging than the simple stroboscope I put together.
Below you can see the finished board lit up. I was extremely happy as I was not convinced that any of it would work after the mess I made with the solder, so hats off to mini kits. I did look at trying to program the display with the micro switches, but I quickly realised that the last three LED lights of the last column were not lighting up, so happy as I am that it works, I will need to come back to this to get the last few lights working and figure out what the problem is.
