More soldering - a lot more soldering

I enjoyed my stroboscope so much that I should step it up a notch with another kit. While the Maplin stroboscope was labelled as a 1 dot difficulty my next challenge, a rolling LED display is a 2 dot challenge. There are a lot more components on a much larger PCB.

This is the back of the board and you can see that there are a lot more points to solder here than the stroboscope, with quite a lot of work very close together.

Jumper wires are something that I have not come across before. Here you can see them bridging a few points. Interestingly I watched a episode of BBC Click where they were talking about 3D printing a PCB to allow crossover between multiple layers of circuits in a composite board just before starting on this,

I managed to get all of the resistors and diodes in place in a single session, but I still have all of the LEDs to go as well as the power and controllers before I have a finished product.
