Pixel Bot Ball Bearing Skids

For quite a while now I have wanted to produce the chassis parts for the Hull Pixel Bot and now I have a working 3D printer I can get stuck in. The first part on the plan and possibly the simplest is the ball bearing skid socket. They are fairly solid cylinders and I need two. They are also pretty small so the print time is low. I download the stl files from Thingverse then slice them in Cura, exporting as gcode for use with Repetier and my Nfire1. On the first attempt I got about 20% of the way through the print before one of the Nfire1's belts slipped and the printer head went off center. I did much better on the second attempt, but again slippage added some interesting effects. In this case burning and distorting the print. After tightening all the belts on the Nfire1 which meant undoing and re-doing some cable ties I managed to produce a decent print of the skid.

Hackmanchester Project

After a week of getting hyped and ready for the Hackmanchester event the team travelled across the Pennines and booked in at the impressive venue of the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry. With over 220 developers turning up on the day, including teams from We Buy Any Car, Sofology and the developers Redeye there was going to be some tough competition. We started unpacking and fueled up on coffee from the guys at Zuto while we laid out plans for what we were going to do. Despite pre-installing things getting connected to the internet and getting working proved to be a challenge in itself and 2 hours in some of the team where still trying to get a decent internet connection. Our overall plan was to produce a system that could record part of a conversation and then stitch together recordings from a library to play back this conversation as a whole in an interactive way, gathering video and audio from various terminals and sending it back to a server, then playing...

Updating a few projects at once

After taking a little personal time out getting married I am back working on my projects and one of the larger ones is a significant update to my site. Work in progress, so not much to show at the moment, but I am trying to showcase some of the skills I have been working on, using the bootstrap framework. I have also made a few more changes to the projects hosted on GitHub, including changes to the code base for the old ICU counter and the Jira for Traffic Light. Both not complete, but heading in the right direction, with new features now in GitHub's issue tracker.
